Getting Started & Setup

SnowSEO is an all-in-one platform that helps your website show up in both Google search results and AI-powered answers (like ChatGPT and Perplexity). It handles keyword research, content writing, website audits, rank tracking, and AI visibility — all in one place. You don’t need any prior SEO knowledge. Every feature includes plain-language explanations, and the platform walks you through each step. Whether you’re a first-time blogger or an agency managing dozens of sites, you can get value from day one.
Follow this order for the fastest results:
  1. Create a Brand — enter your website’s domain and choose your target country
  2. Connect Google Search Console — this is the most important step. It unlocks your real ranking data, traffic numbers, and historical performance
  3. Run a Website Audit — this scans your site for technical problems that might be holding you back
  4. Add keywords to track — pick the search terms that matter most to your business
  5. Start your first article — use the AI editor to create content built to rank
Most people are fully set up in under 15 minutes.
Nope, that’s completely normal! SnowSEO needs a little time to pull in data after you connect Google Search Console. Rankings and traffic numbers typically show up within a few minutes to 24 hours, depending on how much historical data your account has.If it’s been more than 24 hours, double-check that the Google Search Console property you selected matches the exact domain you entered for your Brand (including whether it uses www or not).
Google Search Console (GSC) is where your real search data lives — your actual keyword positions, click-through rates, and how Google sees your site. Without it, SnowSEO can’t show your website traffic, historical rankings, or search performance. It’s the single integration that unlocks the majority of the platform’s value. For established sites, SnowSEO can pull up to 16 months of historical data from GSC, so you’ll immediately see trends and patterns, not just today’s snapshot.
Yes — SnowSEO is designed to optimize and track websites that already exist. If your site is brand new (less than a month old), you can still use all the features, but it may take a bit longer for Google to index your pages and for data to accumulate.

Understanding Your Data

These are the four key numbers that tell you how your site is performing in Google:
  • Clicks — how many people actually visited your site from Google search results. This is your most important metric
  • Impressions — how many times your pages appeared in search results, even if nobody clicked
  • CTR (Click-Through Rate) — the percentage of people who saw your result and clicked it. If this is low, your title or description may need work
  • Average Position — your average ranking spot across all keywords. Lower is better — position 1 is the top result
Not at all. Small ranking fluctuations (1–5 positions) happen every day because Google constantly tests and adjusts its results. This is totally normal.Only investigate if the drop lasts more than 5 days, affects many keywords at the same time, or lines up with a known Google algorithm update. You can check the Google Search Status Dashboard to see if an update was rolled out around that date.
SnowSEO automatically pulls in keywords your site is already ranking for through Google Search Console. These are shown so you can spot opportunities you didn’t know about. If any of them look valuable, you can officially start tracking them with one click.
Several things can eat into your clicks even when you rank well:
  • Google Ads take up the top spots before your organic result
  • AI Overview summaries answer the question directly, so users don’t need to click
  • Featured Snippets show another site’s content at “position zero” above all regular results
Focus on making your title tag and meta description more compelling, or try to win the Featured Snippet yourself.
Google Analytics takes 24–48 hours to fully process data. The numbers you see for “today” are only partial — they fill in over the next day or two. This is standard behavior and not a sign that anything is wrong.

AI Visibility & GEO

More and more people are getting answers directly from AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews — instead of clicking traditional search results. AI Visibility measures how often these tools reference your website as a source. If AI tools aren’t citing your brand, you’re invisible to that growing audience — even if you rank #1 on Google. SnowSEO tracks your citation rate, brand sentiment, and market share across all major AI platforms so you can see exactly where you stand.
We track your brand’s presence across ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, DeepSeek, and Meta Llama — all the major places where users now search for information and recommendations. As new AI tools emerge, we add them to our tracking.
Yes, and it’s more common than you’d think. Google rankings and AI citations are two separate systems. Google ranks pages based on links, relevance, and authority. AI tools pick sources based on how clearly and factually the content answers questions. To get cited more by AI, focus on writing definitive, fact-rich content with clear headings, structured data (Schema markup), and make sure AI bots aren’t blocked in your robots.txt file.
Here are the most effective things you can do:
  1. Write clear, factual content — AI prefers specific claims (“reduces onboarding time by 40%”) over vague ones (“great for businesses”)
  2. Use structured data — add Schema markup (Article, FAQ, HowTo) so AI crawlers understand your content better
  3. Keep your brand consistent online — make sure your company name, description, and details match across your website, LinkedIn, reviews, and directories
  4. Don’t block AI bots — check your robots.txt file to make sure you’re allowing GPTBot, PerplexityBot, and ClaudeBot to crawl your site
Your data refreshes daily. The first report takes 24–48 hours after initial setup. Since AI models update their own knowledge bases on their own schedules, changes in citation behavior may take a few extra days to fully reflect.

Keyword Research & Strategy

Go to Strategy → Keyword Research and type in a word, phrase, or question related to your business. SnowSEO instantly generates hundreds of keyword ideas, each with search volume, difficulty score, and trends. If you’re not sure where to start, try entering a competitor’s website URL — SnowSEO will show you which keywords they rank for, so you can find gaps in your own content.
Keyword Difficulty (KD) is a score from 0 to 100 that tells you how hard it will be to rank on Google’s first page for a particular search term. The higher the number, the tougher the competition.
  • New websites: start with keywords under KD 30 — these are your fastest wins
  • Established websites: you can target up to KD 60 comfortably
  • KD 60+: expect a long-term effort requiring great content and strong backlinks
A Topic Cluster is a group of related articles linked together around one main page (called a “pillar page”). Instead of publishing random blog posts, you create organized content around a theme — which signals to Google that you’re an expert on that entire subject. For example, a pillar page about “Email Marketing” would link to cluster pages like “How to Write Welcome Emails,” “Best Email Tools,” and “Email Open Rate Benchmarks.” Sites that use this strategy consistently outrank sites that publish standalone articles.
Most clusters start showing noticeable improvements with 5–10 published pages (one pillar page plus 4–9 supporting articles). The more complete your coverage of a topic, the stronger your authority — but even a half-built cluster performs better than disconnected articles.
Do both at the same time. Run a Website Audit right after setup to understand your technical baseline — fixing critical errors (like pages blocked from Google) makes everything else you do more effective. But you don’t need a perfect site to start writing. A health score of 70+ is solid enough to begin publishing.

Content Creation & Publishing

Both options are available. You can generate a complete draft from an AI-created outline, or use the inline AI tools to help with specific sections while writing the rest yourself. Most teams find a hybrid approach works best — let the AI handle the initial draft for speed, then review it yourself to add your own voice, verify facts, and include unique insights. Nothing goes live unless you choose to publish it.
The Article Editor is designed for long-form SEO content: blog posts, how-to guides, listicles, comparison articles, product reviews, and landing page copy. Each article is structured and optimized for both Google search results and AI citations. It’s not built for short social media posts or ad copy — it’s focused on the type of content that drives lasting website traffic.
No. Google’s guidelines penalize low-quality content, not AI-generated content. As long as what you publish is genuinely helpful, well-structured, and accurate, it can rank — regardless of how it was created. We always recommend reviewing AI drafts before publishing to catch any errors and add your own expertise.
The SEO Analyzer scores your article from 0 to 100 in real time as you write. It checks things like keyword placement, heading structure, readability, image alt text, and internal links.Aim for 70 or above before publishing. Below 70, there are likely gaps in your content that could hurt its ranking potential. The analyzer tells you exactly what’s missing so you can fix it.
Yes — if you’ve connected your CMS (WordPress, Webflow, Ghost, or Shopify) through the Integrations page. You can click “Publish Now” to push the article live immediately, or “Save as Draft in CMS” if you want to review it on your site first. If you haven’t connected a CMS, you can still write and optimize content — you’ll just need to copy it over to your website manually.
Yes. Just paste your existing content into the Article Editor. The SEO Analyzer will immediately score it and show you suggestions for improvement — so you can optimize older content just as easily as new drafts.
Yes. We support most major languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, and more. Set your preferred language in your Brand settings, and all generated content will be in that language.

Website Audit & Technical SEO

The audit scans your entire site the same way Google does — following every internal link from your homepage. It looks for technical problems like broken links (404 errors), missing page titles, slow-loading pages, images without descriptions, pages accidentally hidden from Google, and redirect chains.Every issue comes with a plain-English explanation of why it matters and step-by-step instructions on how to fix it.
No. SnowSEO uses a conservative crawl speed by default, so your site’s performance stays unaffected. If you’re on a small shared hosting plan, you can reduce the crawl speed even further in the settings before starting the audit.
Your score is a number from 0 to 100 — think of it as a report card for your website’s technical health:
  • 90–100: Excellent — your site is technically clean
  • 70–89: Good — a few things need attention, but nothing urgent
  • 50–69: Needs work — some issues are likely hurting your search performance
  • Below 50: Critical — serious problems need to be fixed right away
This can happen without you touching your site. Common causes include:
  • An external website you link to went down (creating a broken outbound link)
  • A third-party image or script was removed
  • Our scoring was refined to better reflect Google’s latest guidelines
Check the Issues Changed section in your audit report to see exactly what’s new.
Just run a new audit! Each audit is a fresh crawl of your site. Click Run New Audit after deploying your fixes, and your score will update immediately to reflect the changes.
Focus on Errors first (marked in red). Sort them by “Number of Pages Affected” and fix the ones impacting the most pages. Once errors are cleared, move to Warnings (marked in yellow). You don’t need to fix every single notice — those are optional improvements.

Integrations & CMS

SnowSEO connects with WordPress (both WordPress.com and self-hosted), Ghost CMS, Webflow, and Shopify. Once connected, you can publish articles directly from the SnowSEO editor to your live website without any copy-pasting.
Start with Google Search Console — it’s the most important one and unlocks your real search data. Next, connect your CMS so you can publish directly. Finally, add Google Analytics for detailed traffic and content ROI reporting.
Try clicking Reconnect from the expanded integration panel. If that doesn’t help, double-check that:
  • The correct property or site is selected in the dropdown
  • Your account has the right permissions in the external platform
  • You’ve waited at least 24 hours (some integrations need time to sync initially)
Yes. SnowSEO uses industry-standard OAuth 2.0 for all connections. Your passwords are never stored — we only use secure, revocable access tokens. You can disconnect any integration at any time from SnowSEO or revoke access directly from the third-party platform.

Account, Pricing & Team

Yes. You get a 3-day free trial with full access to every feature — no credit card needed to start. That gives you enough time to set up your Brand, run an audit, see your keyword data, and decide if SnowSEO is right for you.
You’ll be asked to choose a paid plan to keep using SnowSEO. If you don’t upgrade, your account is paused — but your data is saved for 30 days in case you decide to come back.
Yes. There are no long-term contracts. Cancel from Account Settings → Billing whenever you want. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period.
Yes. Each website is set up as a separate Brand within your account — with its own keyword tracking, audits, content pipeline, and integrations. Switch between brands from the sidebar. The number of brands you can create depends on your plan.
No — the domain is locked after creation to protect the integrity of your historical data. If you need to track a different domain, create a new Brand and delete the old one if it’s no longer needed.
There are no seat limits on any plan. Invite as many team members as you need at no extra cost. Everyone on the team sees the same Brand data once integrations are connected.
You’ll see data immediately — rankings, traffic, and audit results all show up on day one. Actual improvements to your search performance typically follow this timeline:
  • 2–3 weeks for AI visibility improvements after publishing optimized content
  • 4–8 weeks for initial traffic increases from new articles
  • 2–4 months for meaningful ranking improvements on competitive keywords
SnowSEO is designed to surface your quickest wins first so you build momentum early.
