AI Policy

How SnowSEO uses AI in its product. The AI providers we work with, how your content is processed, what we do and do not train on, and the responsibilities that come with using AI-generated output.

Last Updated on May 17, 2026

Overview

SnowSEO is an AI-powered SEO content platform. We use large language models, retrieval, and search tools to help you research keywords, generate articles, optimize content, and publish to your connected channels. This policy explains how AI works inside SnowSEO: which providers we use, how your content is processed, what we do and do not train on, and the responsibilities that come with using AI-generated output.

This policy is a companion to our Privacy Policy. If something is covered in more detail there, we link or refer to that document.

AI Features We Provide

The following SnowSEO features are powered by AI:

  • Keyword research and clustering: AI helps surface related terms, search intent, and topic clusters from public search data.
  • Content briefs and outlines: AI generates structured outlines from a target keyword, search intent, and your brand context.
  • Article generation: AI drafts long-form articles in your configured brand voice, optionally grounded in live web search results.
  • Brand voice training: You can upload sample content so AI matches your tone, vocabulary, and style.
  • On-page SEO recommendations: AI analyzes a draft and suggests improvements to titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal links, and schema.
  • Web search and citations: For features that require current information, AI uses a web search provider to retrieve and cite live results.
  • Image generation: For supported plans, AI generates illustrative images based on your prompts.

AI Providers and Models

SnowSEO sends your prompts and the context you provide (keywords, brand voice samples, draft content, URLs) to the following AI sub-processors to produce results. We may add, remove, or substitute providers over time as model quality, pricing, and data-protection terms evolve. The list below reflects our current production setup.

  • OpenRouter (USA): A model routing gateway that we use to access large language models from multiple foundation labs. The specific underlying model used for a given request depends on the feature and the model selection in your plan.
  • Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service (USA / EU regions): Hosted OpenAI models used for specific features that benefit from Azure's enterprise data-handling commitments.
  • Exa Labs (USA): A neural web search API that we use to retrieve current information when an AI feature is grounded in live search results.
  • Langfuse (EU): Observability and evaluation platform for AI prompts and responses. Used to monitor quality and debug issues. Stores prompts, completions, and metadata.

The exact underlying model used for any given request can change. If you need a stable, named model for compliance or contractual reasons, contact us at [email protected] to discuss enterprise options.

Your Content and Model Training

We treat your prompts, brand voice samples, drafts, and generated outputs as confidential to your account.

  • SnowSEO does not train any AI model on your content. We do not use your prompts or outputs to fine-tune the foundation models we work with, and we do not aggregate them into training datasets.
  • Our AI providers are contractually prohibited from using your content to train their models. We rely on the zero-data-retention and no-training terms offered by OpenRouter, Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, and Exa for the API endpoints we use.
  • Aggregated, de-identified usage metrics (such as feature counts, latency, and error rates) may be used to improve the product. These metrics do not contain your prompts or generated content.

If you need a signed Data Processing Agreement (DPA) or written confirmation of our AI provider terms, contact us at [email protected].

How Long AI Providers Retain Data

Each AI provider has its own retention behavior for API requests. Where the provider offers a zero-retention option, we use it.

  • OpenRouter: Configured for zero-data retention on the API endpoints we use, subject to the underlying provider's policies.
  • Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service: Configured for zero-retention on the API endpoints we use. Azure may retain prompts for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring; this can be disabled for qualified enterprise customers on request.
  • Exa Labs: Stores search queries transiently to serve results and for abuse prevention; does not use queries to train foundation models.
  • Langfuse: Stores prompts and completions in our observability instance for up to 90 days for debugging and quality monitoring. Access is restricted to authorized SnowSEO engineers.

See our Privacy Policy for full sub-processor details and SnowSEO's own retention windows.

Ownership of AI-Generated Output

As between you and SnowSEO, you own the outputs that you generate using SnowSEO's AI features, subject to our Terms of Service and the underlying provider terms. You are responsible for how you use those outputs, including any decision to publish them.

Note that the legal status of AI-generated content varies by jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions do not recognize copyright in purely AI-generated works. SnowSEO does not provide legal advice on this question. If copyright matters to your use case, edit, restructure, and contribute substantial human authorship to the output, and consult qualified counsel.

Accuracy, Limitations, and Your Responsibilities

AI models can produce output that is plausible-sounding but factually wrong, out of date, biased, or that fabricates citations and sources. SnowSEO's AI features are designed to assist your content workflow, not to replace human judgment.

You are responsible for the content you publish using SnowSEO. Before publishing AI-generated or AI-assisted content, you should:

  • Read the full output. Do not publish content you have not reviewed.
  • Verify factual claims, statistics, quotes, and cited sources against authoritative references.
  • Confirm that links resolve to the pages you intend.
  • Check that the content reflects your brand position and does not misrepresent your products, services, or third parties.
  • Confirm that the content complies with the laws and regulations that apply to your business and audience, including disclosure requirements (FTC, ASA, etc.), industry-specific rules (medical, financial, legal), and the policies of any platform you publish to.

SnowSEO provides AI-assisted drafts. The decision to publish is always yours.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use SnowSEO's AI features to generate or distribute content that:

  • Is illegal under applicable law, infringes intellectual property, or violates the rights of third parties.
  • Is defamatory, harassing, threatening, or constitutes hate speech against individuals or protected groups.
  • Promotes self-harm, exploitation of minors, or non-consensual sexual content.
  • Is intended to deceive, including content presented as authored by a specific real person without that person's authorization, or content designed to manipulate elections or public health information.
  • Contains malware, instructions for creating weapons, or step-by-step guidance for serious crimes.
  • Violates the acceptable-use policies of our underlying AI providers, which we incorporate by reference.

Our underlying AI providers run their own safety filters on requests and responses. Output may be refused, redacted, or flagged by those filters. Repeated attempts to bypass safety guardrails may result in suspension of your SnowSEO account.

Safety, Bias, and Fairness

AI systems can reflect and amplify biases present in their training data. We work to reduce harm in the following ways:

  • We select providers that publish safety evaluations and that maintain abuse-monitoring programs.
  • We monitor outputs through Langfuse for quality regressions and unexpected behavior.
  • We refine the prompts and instructions that drive AI features to encourage balanced, well-sourced output.
  • We respond to user reports of biased or unsafe behavior and adjust prompts, model selection, or provider configuration when warranted.

If you encounter biased, harmful, or low-quality output, report it to [email protected] with the request details. We use these reports to improve the product.

Human Oversight

SnowSEO is a human-in-the-loop tool. AI features assist you; they do not act autonomously without your involvement.

  • You configure brand voice, target keywords, and audience context.
  • You approve outputs before they are published.
  • For publishing integrations such as Shopify and WordPress, the decision to publish is initiated by you, and you can review, edit, schedule, or discard any draft before it goes live.
  • Automated scheduling and bulk publishing run on plans you create and approve. You can pause or cancel any scheduled job from your dashboard.

Controlling AI Use in Your Workspace

AI is core to the SnowSEO product, so it is not possible to use SnowSEO without using AI. You can, however, control how AI is applied to your account:

  • Brand voice samples and other context you upload are used only for your account and are not shared across workspaces or customers.
  • You can delete uploaded brand voice samples, drafts, and projects from the dashboard at any time. Deletion is propagated to backups within 30 days.
  • You can disable web search grounding on a per-request or per-feature basis where the feature exposes that toggle.
  • You can request export or deletion of your account data at any time by contacting [email protected] or using the in-app account settings.

Regulatory Context

We monitor the evolving regulatory landscape for AI, including the EU AI Act, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO/IEC 42001, and emerging US state laws. SnowSEO is a general-purpose content generation tool; we do not currently offer features that we believe would fall into the EU AI Act's high-risk or prohibited categories. As regulations finalize and as our feature set evolves, we will update this policy and our compliance posture accordingly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this AI Policy from time to time as our providers, features, and the regulatory landscape change. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision. We will notify customers by email or in-app notice of material changes prior to them taking effect.
