- ### What is page speed and why does it matter?

Page speed measures how quickly your web pages load and become usable. It directly impacts user experience, conversion rates, and search engine rankings. Google has confirmed page speed as a ranking factor. Studies consistently show that each second of delay increases bounce rates and decreases conversions.

- ### What does this page speed test measure?

It runs Google PageSpeed Insights (Lighthouse) on your URL, for both mobile and desktop. You get scores for Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, SEO and Agentic Browsing. You also see lab metrics: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), First Contentful Paint (FCP), Time to First Byte (TTFB), Speed Index, Time to Interactive (TTI) and Total Blocking Time (TBT). Each category lists the issues found and the audits you passed.

- ### Is SnowSEO's page speed test free?

Yes. Run it without an account: 2 free uses per tool each year. Sign in for more.

- ### What is a good page speed score?

90-100 indicates excellent performance. 50-89 represents moderate performance with room for improvement. Below 50 indicates significant problems. For the lab metrics, aim for LCP under 2.5 seconds and CLS under 0.1.

- ### How can I improve my page speed?

Start with image optimization: compress images, use WebP format, size appropriately, implement lazy loading. Enable browser caching. Address render-blocking resources by inlining critical CSS and deferring non-essential JavaScript. Consider minifying files, implementing a CDN, and upgrading hosting if server response is slow.

- ### What causes slow page speed?

Server issues include slow hosting, no CDN, and unoptimized configuration. Front-end issues include uncompressed images, render-blocking CSS and JavaScript, large bundles, and excessive DOM size. Third-party resources often create hidden problems: analytics, advertising, chat widgets, and social embeds can each add significant load time.

- ### Does it measure Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are Google's metrics for loading, responsiveness and visual stability, based on data from real visitors. This is a lab test, so it shows LCP (loading) and CLS (visual stability) from a simulated visit, plus Total Blocking Time, the lab stand-in for responsiveness. It doesn't include real-visitor data.

- ### What is the difference between mobile and desktop speed?

Mobile devices have less processing power and often slower networks, so mobile scores are usually lower. Google mainly uses the mobile version of your site for indexing, so concentrate your improvement efforts on mobile. The test shows both.
